A MOOC is a “Massive Open Online Course” they have been a fairly big story in education for the last few years. Most universities have produced at least one or two by now and because they are public facing there tends to be a lot of time and effort spent on making sure the materials are of high quality. This has made universities aware of A) What is possible and B) Just how expensive it can be.

As a fair number of students will have tried a MOOC there is the potential that they may compare the online materials they get as part of a degree they pay for with the online materials they get in a free MOOC and the comparison may not be favourable.
